Sourcing parts for Kenworth and Peterbilt trucks

The best source for a Kenworth or Peterbilt part depends on the repair: which part you are replacing, whether the listing fits your truck’s generation and configuration, what comes in the package, and how it ships. Tacoma Parts Corporation sells new aftermarket parts for both makes, including fairing and side panels, bumper components and headlights.

For genuine PACCAR parts or a warranty decision, go to an authorized Kenworth or Peterbilt dealer. Below is a sample buying plan for two trucks, with the checks to make before you order.

Which sources fit the repair you are planning?

Start with the job. A cracked fairing panel, a broken bumper corner or a fogged headlight is body or lighting work, and an aftermarket catalog, that lists fitment by model and generation is a good first stop.

Other jobs belong with the official channel. If you need a genuine PACCAR part, a warranty decision, or a component, that has to be programmed with dealer software, ask an authorized Kenworth or Peterbilt dealer or a service shop, that does that work. Kenworth’s parts information page separates PACCAR Genuine parts, parts from OE suppliers, and TRP, which Kenworth describes as an aftermarket line for all makes. A TRP part is a different thing from a genuine factory part.

One sourcing plan for a T680 Next Gen and a Peterbilt 579

The example below is a training scenario written for this guide. It does not describe a real order or a finished repair. A small fleet needs body and lighting parts for a 2023 Kenworth T680 Next Gen and a 2023 Peterbilt 579. Both trucks have been inspected, and the shop has to build one order.

Kenworth T680 Next Gen: fairing panels and headlights

The T680 needs new upper fairing kick panels on both sides. The upper fairing kick panel set for the T680 Next Gen is listed for 2022+ Next Gen trucks and includes the left driver and right passenger panels. If only one side is damaged, Tacoma also lists each panel on its own.

The set’s card gives reference OE numbers A18-1014 and A18-1018. A reference number helps you match the panel to the one you removed, but it does not make an aftermarket panel a genuine Kenworth part.

Both headlights on this truck are damaged, so the shop picks the LED headlight set for the T680 Next Gen. It is listed for 2022 and newer Next Gen trucks and contains both sides, single headlights are sold too.

Peterbilt 579: bumper kit and rear side panel

The Peterbilt 579 needs front bumper components and a driver-side rear panel. The nine-piece bumper kit for the Peterbilt 579 model (designed for 2022 and newer trucks) does not include cutouts for fog lights. The kit consists of nine parts: two bumper covers, two inner corner pieces, a center section, two seals, and two extensions. Versions with fog light cutouts and 14-piece kits are also available - please be sure to verify the list of components against the specific damage to your vehicle.

Even a kit sold as complete may not contain everything you need. A nine-piece set, for instance, may not include bolts or brackets. Buy any missing pieces separately or reuse the good ones from your truck. The driver-side rear panel with a bracket fits the left side of a 2023+ Peterbilt 579 and includes the bracket.

Why generation and configuration matter more than the badge

Three mistakes are easy to make with a plan like this one.

  1. Searching by model name only. “T680” covers more than one generation, and Tacoma lists T680 Next Gen parts (2022+) in a separate catalog section from earlier T680 trucks.
  2. Stretching one part’s year range to the whole catalog. The bumper kit above is listed for Peterbilt 579 trucks from 2022 on, while the rear side panel we picked is listed for 2023+. A 2022 truck matches the bumper card and not the panel card, so a 2022+ catalog section does not mean every part in it fits a 2022 truck.
  3. Assuming Kenworth and Peterbilt parts swap because both brands belong to PACCAR. Shared ownership does not make a Peterbilt panel fit a Kenworth cab.

Compare the cost of the whole repair package

Spare parts for such repairs can be supplied as individual components (for example, a single headlight or a single lower body panel), as sets - covering both the driver’s and passenger’s sides - or as larger assemblies, such as a panel combined with its mounting bracket, or a multi-part unit (for instance, a bumper consisting of nine separate pieces). Choose the appropriate option based on the results of your inspection and the list of parts specified in the documentation. If only the passenger-side headlight is damaged, replacing that single unit may suffice. Replacing parts on both sides or the entire bumper assembly is warranted only when there is a clear reason, for example, if both corners are damaged. If the parts sit out of line, check the brackets and supports first: a new cover will not fix a bent mount. Then compare the total cost of each option: the parts you need, plus the pieces the listing leaves out, plus prep or paint if the part needs it, plus freight to your address. A kit can cost less than the same pieces bought one at a time, or more if half of them are still good on your truck. Some parts need fitting work during installation, so ask the seller and your body shop before you count on a bolt-on job.

Send a parts request that can be checked

A seller can confirm fitment only from the details you send, so put them all in one message. Give the make and model, the model year and generation (for example, a 2023 T680 Next Gen), and the VIN if the seller asks for it. Name the part, its position on the truck and the side you need, whether driver, passenger or both. Add the number from the removed part or its reference OE number, and attach photos of the part, its mounting points and its connectors. Finish with the pieces you need in the package, your ZIP code, the address type (commercial, warehouse or residential) and the date you need the part by.

Confirm dispatch, delivery and returns before checkout

Dispatch and delivery are two different events. Tacoma Parts Corporation states that orders are handed to the carrier within 24 hours of purchase, excluding weekends and holidays. Transit time then depends on your address and the shipping method.

Before placing an order, please review the terms and conditions provided on each product page. The bumper kit and rear side panel featured in this guide can only be delivered to commercial or warehouse locations. The carrier will require a valid phone number to complete the delivery.

When the freight arrives, inspect it on delivery, photograph any damage, and contact the seller right away.

Under Tacoma’s return policy, a returned item must reach the warehouse within 30 calendar days of the delivery date. It has to be unused, in the condition you received it, in its original packaging, and sent with proof of purchase. Return shipping depends on the reason: a wrong item (one that differs from what you ordered) or a defective one goes back free, while for buyer-side reasons, such as an accidental order or a part that does not fit your truck, the label cost is deducted.

When Tacoma Parts Corporation fits the job

Tacoma Parts Corporation is a truck parts seller based in SeaTac, Washington. Since 2012 it has supplied owner-operators, fleet managers and body shops with new aftermarket parts. The Kenworth parts catalog and the Peterbilt replacement parts catalog are sorted by model, with separate sections for the T680 Next Gen and the 2022+ Peterbilt 579. The four parts in this guide are examples of the body and lighting work these catalogs cover.

Every part Tacoma sells is aftermarket. The company is not affiliated with PACCAR, Kenworth or Peterbilt and does not sell genuine OEM parts. Each product card states its fitment and package contents, and you can call (206) 235-2411 to check either one before you order.

FAQ

Can I buy Kenworth and Peterbilt aftermarket parts from the same supplier?

Yes. Tacoma Parts Corporation, for example, keeps separate aftermarket catalogs for Kenworth and Peterbilt, so one order can hold parts for both makes. Each part still needs its own fitment check against your truck, and you should ask whether the items will ship together or separately.

Does a matching model year guarantee that a body panel will fit?

No. The model year is just one of the criteria to consider. Other important factors include the generation, the side of installation, the panel’s positioning, the hole pattern, and the mounting configuration. In this guide, the bumper kit for the Peterbilt 579 is listed for 2022 and newer models, while the selected rear side panel is for 2023 and newer models. A 2022 truck may meet some of the requirements but not others.

What should I check before buying a complete bumper kit?

Start with the piece list, such as the nine pieces named on the Peterbilt 579 kit above, and compare it with the damage on your truck. Then confirm the fog lamp holes, your model year, any hardware or lamps the kit leaves out, and whether your address qualifies for commercial or warehouse delivery.

Does Tacoma Parts Corporation sell genuine OEM parts?

No. Tacoma Parts Corporation sells only new, aftermarket (non-original) parts. Some product listings include reference original equipment (OE) numbers, which can help you identify a replacement for the part you have removed, however, the presence of such a cross-reference does not mean that the part is an original (OEM) component. For the purchase of original parts, please contact an authorized Kenworth or Peterbilt dealer.

Does “ships within 24 hours” mean next-day delivery?

No. It means the order is handed to the carrier within 24 hours of purchase, excluding weekends and holidays. Transit time depends on your location and the shipping method. If you have a deadline, give Tacoma your ZIP code and ask for an estimated arrival date before you order.

Open the Kenworth catalog or the Peterbilt catalog to find the part for your truck’s generation, or call Tacoma Parts Corporation at (206) 235-2411 to confirm fitment and package contents first.
