Search for Volvo VNL parts by generation, model number, and VIN

To find parts for a specific Volvo VNL, you need three things: the generation (build year), the model number, and the side or configuration of the part. With those three, fitment is settled before anything ships. We have supplied new aftermarket parts for Volvo VN and VNL trucks since 2012, and this is the sequence our order desk in SeaTac, WA uses to get it right first time. The VNL has gone through four front-end generations since the late 1990s, and most exterior parts do not carry over. The table below maps generations to model numbers and what does not interchange. Everything in this Volvo VNL parts catalog  is new aftermarket, built to OEM fitment standards.

How to identify your Volvo VNL generation and model number

The model number is on the data plate inside the driver's door jamb, and it is badged on most sleepers. It appears in the full designation - for example, VNL64T760 - where "64" is the axle configuration, "T" is tractor, and the last three digits are the cab code. That code identifies the cab: 300 is a day cab, 400 and 440 are short sleepers, and 640, 660, 730, 740, 760, 780, 840 and 860 are full sleepers of varying length and roof height.

Configuration matters as much as the number: a day cab and a 70-inch sleeper use different fairing panels, steps and fuel tank covers in one model year. Build year outranks visual similarity. 2018+ front-end parts do not fit 2004–2017 trucks, even when they look similar. Ordering Volvo VNL spare parts off a photo is the most common way a good part ends up on a return label.

How to use the VIN to confirm Volvo VNL parts fitment

The VIN is stamped in the driver's door opening, on the right-side frame rail, and printed on the registration. It confirms the build year, cab and sleeper configuration, and the equipment the truck left the plant with - more reliable than a model year on a work order.

Most errors when selecting spare parts stem from two factors that are easily clarified using the VIN: the installation side (driver’s or passenger’s) and the presence of specific cutouts. Components such as hoods, fenders, fairing panels, doors, mirrors, steps, and headlights vary by side, and left- and right-hand parts are frequently mixed up on invoices. Regarding cutouts, one must consider features like fog light openings or air deflector mounts in the bumper - since even two trucks from the same model year can have different configurations. Send us the VIN, and we will verify the part before shipping.

Volvo VNL parts by category

Bumpers and bumper components

Front-end damage rarely means the whole bumper is scrap. We stock full-width bumpers for Volvo VNL trucks and sell the pieces separately: corners, bumper trims, corner trims and brackets. If only a corner took the curb, replacing that corner restores the profile and airflow path for far less than a full assembly. On 2018+ trucks, check whether the bumper carries an air flow deflector and is cut for fog lights.

Grille guards and bumper guards

Our strongest category. We carry Herd, EX-Guard and Kozak protection, including Herd grille guards for Volvo semi trucks, plus Volvo VNL grille and bumper guards and a separate collection of grille guard brackets for Volvo VNL. The mistake we correct most often: a guard is not one part. It is a pair - the guard plus the bracket set for your build year. 2025+ trucks take their own hardware.

Hoods, hood fenders and hood components

A full Volvo VNL hood makes sense after a serious hit or a cracked shell, but many repairs are component-level: latches, vent grilles, hood fenders, fender trims and side turn markers are sold on their own under Volvo VNL hood individual components. Shells differ by generation - a fiberglass long hood for 1998-2002, a 2004-2017 shell bare or complete, and a 2018+ shell with integrated turn markers.

Fairings, steps and fuel tank covers

Side fairings route airflow around the cab and sleeper, which affects fuel burn at highway speed, and they shield steps, tanks and lower panels from spray and debris. They are also among the first parts damaged. We stock fairing panels for Volvo VNL plus brackets, extensions, chrome trim sets, steps and fuel tank covers. Selection depends on cab height, sleeper length and step position.

Grilles and emblems

We carry grilles for Volvo VNL in chrome and black, including versions with a bug net screen, plus logo emblems and hood chrome. Grille geometry changed at every generation break – 2004-2017, 2018+ and 2025+ each use a distinct opening, so the build year has to be right. A bug net grille also protects the charge air cooler and radiator behind it.

Lighting - headlights and fog lights

We stock LED and standard headlights for Volvo VNL in sets and single units, plus fog lights. Three things to check: DOT compliance, a plug-and-play connector for your generation, and set versus single side. One headlight is cheaper, but a new unit beside a decade-old one throws light differently. Housings and connectors differ between 2004-2017 and 2018+ trucks, so match the generation first.

Cooling - charge air coolers, radiators, condensers and coolant tanks

Sort cooling out before summer, not during it. The symptoms are consistent: coolant temperature climbing on grades, lost boost or a power drop, weeping at a tank seam, or A/C that quits keeping up in traffic. We stock charge air coolers for Volvo VNL, radiators, condensers and coolant tanks - all of them frequent collateral damage in a front-end hit, so inspect them during bumper work.

Mirrors, doors and other components

Beyond the front end we supply mirrors, doors, water pumps, turbochargers, filters and splash guards.  Mirrors for Volvo VNL are side-specific and vary by heated and powered configuration, so confirm the side before ordering. Door assemblies are one of the few larger components with a wide fitment span across VNL build years, which makes them an easier order than front-end parts.

Universal parts that fit any VNL

Some parts are sized by the component, not the model number, and this is where most Volvo VNL accessories live. Semi truck wheels and rims fit any VNL on standard 22.5-inch equipment, as do aerodynamic wheel covers and hub caps, brake drums, mud flaps, quarter fenders, tire carriers, license plate holders, wipers, tire chains and Autoterm diesel air heaters. These ship to any generation of VNL.

Volvo VNL accessories vs replacement parts

These are two different jobs. A replacement part goes on after a failure or a collision - a bumper, hood, headlight, fairing panel or charge air cooler - and fitment is non-negotiable: year, model and side have to match. Volvo VNL accessories are about comfort and appearance: chrome trim sets, wheel covers, logo emblems, license plate holders, bunk heaters, extra steps. Selection is looser, because you are choosing a look rather than restoring a factory contour. One caution: the accessory may be flexible, but brackets, clips and step frames are still model-specific.

Aftermarket parts for a specific VNL model: what to check

Four checks separate parts that install cleanly from parts that fight you.

  1. Dimensional match.  The part should match OEM dimensions and mounting points, using existing holes and hardware without drilling or fabrication.
  2. DOT and SAE compliance on lighting.  Headlights, fog lights and turn markers must meet the applicable standards to stay legal and pass inspection.
  3. A seller's warranty.  Aftermarket parts carry the seller's warranty, not the truck manufacturer's factory coverage. Know which one you have.
  4. Published fitment data.  A listing that does not state the years and models it covers is not making a fitment claim.

An honest boundary: engine internals, electronics and emissions systems are dealer territory. Body panels, front-end protection, lighting, cooling and aerodynamics are where a specialized heavy-duty aftermarket supplier is the practical choice - our segment.

New aftermarket vs used Volvo parts

Salvage yards are a real option - often cheaper up front, and sometimes the only source for a discontinued piece on an older VN or early VNL. The trade-offs on a Class 8 truck are real: corrosion from years in road salt, hidden stress damage from the collision that put the donor truck in the yard, paint and chrome that never quite match, no warranty when a part turns out to be bent, and incomplete hardware that turns a two-hour job into a day of chasing brackets.

We sell new aftermarket parts only - no used or salvaged components.  Every part we list is new, built to OEM fitment standards, and published with the years and models it fits.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can you help me find parts for a specific Volvo VNL model?

Yes. Give us the build year, the model number (for example VNL 760 or VNL 300) and the side the part goes on, and we will match it to your configuration. Send the VIN and we will verify fitment before anything ships. We then work by category - bumpers, guards, hoods, fairings, grilles, lighting and cooling - with orders handed to the carrier within 24 hours.

What Volvo VNL models are there?

The VNL has run through four generations. The VN and early VNL era, late 1990s to 2003, includes VN 610, 660 and 770 and early VNL 300, 420, 610, 630, 660, 670, 770 and 780. The 2004-2017 generation covers VNL 300, 430, 630, 670, 730 and 780. The 2018–2024 generation covers VNL 300, 400, 740, 760 and 860, and the New VNL from 2025 covers VNL 300, 440, 640, 660, 840 and 860.

Are 2018+ Volvo VNL parts compatible with 2004–2017 trucks?

No. The 2018 redesign changed the entire front end, so hoods, grilles, headlights, bumpers, air flow deflectors and fairing panels are not interchangeable between the generations. The parts look similar in photographs, but mounting points, bumper cutouts and headlight connectors differ. Grille guards also need bracket sets matched to the correct generation.

Do I need a VIN to order Volvo VNL parts?

Not strictly, but it is the fastest way to avoid a return. Without a VIN we need three things: build year, model number, and the side or configuration - driver or passenger, and for bumpers whether the truck has fog light and deflector cutouts. With a VIN we confirm all of that before the part ships. The VIN is in the driver's door opening or on the frame rail.

Where can I buy Volvo VNL parts near me?
